Mother Nurtured Midwifery will be offering homebirth midwifery services beginning Fall 2009. Michelle Writes about herself:
My husband and I met twelve years ago and have been married for nine years. Together we have three wonderful children. Our first daughter was born at Bloomington Hospital, and we have a son and another daughter who were born at home attended by a midwife and her apprentice. At one of those births, I also had a wonderful doula-in-training.
My births attended by midwives and doula were, simply put, amazing. The knowledgeable care and nurturing I received made my pregnancies and birth experiences wonderful for not only my husband and I, but our other children. Since 2003, I have felt called to offer the midwifery model of care to other women during their childbearing year. I have been honored to attend hospital births, homebirths, waterbirths, and VBAC/HBACs. It is such an amazing time in a mother and father's lives, and should be recognized as such!
I am an apprentice midwife studying Advanced Midwifery Studies through Ancient Art Midwifery Institute. Beginning Fall 2009, I will be accepting midwifery clients under the supervision of my preceptor/teacher. I enjoy pursuing many educational opportunities and experiences.
Affiliations include Indiana Midwives Association (IMA).
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

"Providing home birth services, including water birth option. I believe that Christ has designed the birth process, being a midwife is one of the highest callings. It is an honor to be a part of the birth of your little one."
But from everlasting to everlasting
the LORD's love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children's children-
with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
Sons are a heritage from the LORD,
children a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are sons born in one's youth.
Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

Serving Birthing Women for Over 20 Years
950 Jolley Road
Chesnee, SC 29323
I have served birthing women for over 20 years. I began my service by teaching natural childbirth classes after the successful natural birth of my second child. I taught The Bradley Method for three years and was certified through the American Academy of Husband Coached Childbirth. I found that this method of childbirth instruction was effective in helping women achieve their goals of natural childbirth and being active participants in their maternity care. I served as a doula / labor support to many of the students I taught in childbirth education classes. The first birth I attended as labor support was to a VBAC mother who successfully birthed her 10 pound baby boy with no other interventions.
While studying for the Bradley Method certification, I became aware of the studies that showed the safety and effectiveness of home birth and chose to have my third child born at home with South Carolina Licensed Midwives. After Trey’s birth, I began my four year apprenticeship with Licensed Midwives and completed the Midwifery Education Foundation’s course on midwifery. I was licensed by South Carolina DHEC in 1991 to attend low risk women with prenatal and delivery care. As part of SC licensure, Licensed Midwives maintain education and accountability with continuing education requirements, peer review, quarterly reporting, and current certifications in adult and infant resuscitation.
On the national level, I have successfully completed the North American Registry of Midwives nationally certifying exam for the Certified Professional Midwife and have met their clinical requirements.
I have maintained membership in the South Carolina Licensed Midwives Association and have served as president of this association for two terms. I have served on the Midwifery Advisory Council to South Carolina DHEC, Division of Health Regulation, and held the chair position for many years.
In addition, I have developed a course of education for aspiring midwives, Dar la Luz Midwifery Studies, that has been approved by SC DHEC for the education component for the licensing candidate. I have been teaching this course to student midwives since 2004. I also am on the faculty of CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association) and teach a certifying workshop for the Labor Doula who provides educational and labor support services to the birthing woman.
My midwifery services include prenatal and delivery care to women at home and at the birthing center and my doula services provides labor support and education to women at home, birth center, or hospital. With over 20 years experience and the heart to help women achieve their birthing dreams, I bring the ability and desire to help women birth their babies safely and effectively.
